Are you struggling to get a decent house in your own area? Are you fed up with the lack of resources in Castlemilk? Have you noticed the devastating effect that isolation is having on the people in your community?

We have joined an independent tenant’s union and started up a branch called Living Rent Castlemilk and we need you. We are not linked to any religious, political or charity groups and our main goal is building our community up to the standard we deserve.

We are famous in Castlemilk for our community spirit and we want to use that spirit to unite, take ownership of our area and stand up for ourselves.

We will demand: - a shopping centre which is fit for purpose - that houses are built in Castlemilk which meet our needs - community spaces that we have control over, built and run for us, by us - introduction of a local bus fare - no more threatening letters to tenants, intimidation or evictions.

This isn’t going to simply be given to us, we will take back our community by joining together and fighting the issues that matter to us the most. For this we need you. Regardless of your current living situation we need you to get involved.

Join the fight, fill in the survey here, join the union and get stuck in.

Q: What have you seen change in Castlemilk?
A: Too many outsiders not from castlemilk getting BRAND NEW built houses while the folk that have lived there all their lives struggle to get a house and when they do get offered one, it’s top flat in a close!! Why the F should anyone that’s not from castlemilk get given one of the brand new houses!?. It absolutely disgusts me. I don’t care if you’re white, black, brown, yellow or blue, love all people, but it’s not right that people just off the boat from a different country get out into one of these brand new built houses, they haven’t even contributed to the Scottish economy in any way yet they’re gettin new houses and won’t need to pay any rent either!? CMONNNNN!!! I have worked and payed tax all my life, I wasn’t eligible for a new house because I had one, okay it was a private let and costing me 500 quid a month which I got no help paying and payed it in full myself!! Then we move onto the folk who stay outside castlemilk, spoke to a woman who said she was from MILTON and got a house over here with her 2 grown ass sons, who where in their 30s+ she got a nice big 3 bedroom house with a lovely big garden for her and her 2 adult sons whom will probably move out soon and leave her on her tod in a freekin 3 bed house. The Gha should be ashamed of themselves the way they’re allocating these houses. Also a family with 2 young kids, who where kicked out of their last home for anti social behaviour and fighting, managed to bag themselves a brand new house also. I’ve never seen castlemilk like this in my life and it is disgusting. Something needs to be done or the good people of here are going to go mental. Speaking to a woman and she was saying her hubby struggles with the stairs in their flat, they have been offered other houses IN A CLOSE 2 and 3 up, like that’s what they really need. Sorry I have rambled on and on but I’ve seen so much and heard so much as I’m a daily regular at the shops. Hopefully you girls can help get something done.

Q: What have you seen change in Castlemilk?
A: Everything has changed, local services closed or withdrawn from the area, loads of new houses but nowhere to buy fresh food, house rents going up but poor housing, the real poverty, junkies, honestly I could go on and on . . . . .
