Lochend Needs Safe Roads

Road Safety is desperately needed in our community.  There have been multiple road safety accidents in the local area caused by speeding cars and lack of safe crossings affecting the elderly, pets and children. Accidents range from near misses, to sadly, loss of life.

Many people in the community are affected by this issue whether its cyclists, children, people with disabilities, stress from the noise of speeding cars or any resident willing to take a risk by crossing the road. Improving road safety would have a huge positive impact on our local area. This can’t go any longer, lives are at risk.

We are asking for a measurable improvement in Road Safety Measures in Lochend, specifically on Restalrig Road and Sleigh Drive/ Sleigh Drive Roundabout where many of the accidents have taken place and around nurseries and local primary schools

Other areas to improve are noted here:

  • Sleigh Drive Roundabout – This busy intersection needs clearer signage and improved pedestrian crossing facilities.
  • Near St Ninian's Primary School – With the high volume of students, we urge for enhanced speed restrictions and designated crossing guards.
  • Outside Prospect Bank School – Additional traffic calming measures and clear markings are essential for the safety of our children.
  • Outside the Boxing Club on Craigentinny Road – This area sees many young people, necessitating better visibility and safety enhancements.
  • On Lochend Road South (near the shops) – The existing island is inadequate; improved pedestrian crossings and signage are crucial.
  • Lochend Road South Roundabout – Increased traffic flow demands better management and safety measures for all road users.
  • Marionville Road (island near Edinburgh Salt Rooms) – We call for additional signage, traffic calming measures and improved pedestrian crossings to prevent accidents.

By signing this petition, you are joining us in urging the Edinburgh Council to prioritise the safety of our community and take action on these critical issues. Your support is vital in making our streets safer for everyone.
