Hiring - Two Organisers in Glasgow and Edinburgh

Organiser x2 (1 in Glasgow/1 in Edinburgh)

Living Wage, FT, 35h/week, Glasgow or Edinburgh, 12-month, possibility of extension. These are full-
time (35h per week) roles with some flexible working.

Living Rent is looking for two community organisers to join our organisation in Glasgow and Edinburgh and fight for social and economic change. You will work closely with Living Rent’s members in each city to build more local branches and join a growing team of Living Rent organisers in both cities.

About the job:

Your job is build tenant power in order to challenge landlords collectively, not only bringing victories to members but also building a system that puts people before profit. The role will entail organising outreach events (doorknocking, stalls, community meetings), recruiting members, supporting the creation of neighbourhood organising teams, supporting members to organise direct actions and organising local events. This role aims to get more people involved in Living Rent at the local and national level in order to build tenants’ power in Scotland.

Qualifications:
We are looking for someone keen to work with a young organisation and passionate about member-run and diverse organisations and determined to build working-class power. Experience in recruitment, training delivery, community education or campaigns is welcome; however enthusiasm, willingness to learn and commitment to social justice are more important than previous experience as training will be provided. This role may suit someone with experience in sales, street fundraising or other customer facing work, and wishes to move into organising. We are looking for someone with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, dedicated to building tenants’ power, and keen to develop Living Rent’s potential. Please note, the interview process will take place over two stages. We will hold a half day 1st stage of interviews on the 2nd of April, which is mandatory to be considered, where we will provide applicants with introduction to the organisation and hands-on exercises and an interview. Short-listed candidates will be asked to a second stage hands-on evaluation which will take place on the 6 and 7th of April.
