Living Rent is recruiting a campaign officer and an organiser in Edinburgh




Living Rent is continuing to build membership and power across Scotland. And just now, we are recruiting a campaign officer and an Edinburgh-based organiser to support members to build power and win locally and nationally! This position will join and support a team of organisers across Scotland.

Campaign officer

About the job:
Role: Campaign officer, Glasgow or Edinburgh
Details: £19,292-20,020 per year (depending on experience), FT (35h), Edinburgh or Glasgow, 12 months, with the possibility of extension. 

Living Rent is looking for a campaign officer to join Living Rent and support the organisation to fight for social and economic change. You will work closely with Living Rent’s members and staff members across Scotland.

About the job: Living Rent is hiring a full-time national campaigns officer to support Living Rent’s national capacity to deliver social change for the benefit of Living Rent members and the communities from which they come. The national campaign officer will support Living Rent members to develop and deliver national campaigns in order to build the power of the organisation, using a range of tactics (direct action research, coalitions etc) in order to tackle the key issues selected by members.

Qualifications: We are looking for someone keen to work with a young organisation and passionate about member-run and diverse organisations and determined to build working-class power. Experience in  training delivery, community education, community/workplace organising or campaigns is welcome; however enthusiasm, willingness to learn and commitment to social justice are more important than previous experience as training will be provided. We are looking for someone with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, dedicated to building tenants’ power, and keen to build Living Rent’s potential. We are very excited to continue growing our organisation and hope this job is for YOU!

Community Organiser Edinburgh

Role: Organiser, Edinburgh
Details: Full time (35h/week, £19,292- £20,020 per annum depending on experience), Edinburgh, 12 months, with the possibility of extension. 

About the job: Living Rent is hiring a full-time community organiser to support members organise in their neighbourhoods to challenge the issues they face and to fight for better housing and a system that works for the common good. The role entails outreach (stalls, doorknocking), recruiting members, and supporting members to organise meetings, take responsibilities locally, build democratic neighbourhood branches and take part in city-wide and national structures. This role aims to get more people involved in Living Rent at the local and national level, in order to build tenants’ power in Scotland.

Qualifications: We are looking for someone keen to work with a young organisation and passionate about member-run and diverse organisations and determined to build working-class power. Experience in recruitment, training delivery, community education, community/workplace organising or campaigns is welcome; however enthusiasm, willingness to learn and commitment to social justice are more important than previous experience as training will be provided. This role may suit someone with experience in sales, street fundraising or other customer facing work, and wishes to move into organising. We are looking for someone with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, dedicated to building tenants’ power, and keen to build Living Rent’s potential. Please note, the interview process will take place over two stages. We will hold a 1st stage of interviews on Wednesday the 17th of August which is mandatory to be considered, where we will provide applicants with introduction to the organisation, hands-on collective exercises and an interview. Short-listed candidates will be asked to a second stage hands-on evaluation which will take place on the week of the 22nd of August in person.
