LEITH: Scrap Student Builds, We Need Social Housing

Object to expensive purpose built student accommodation and build to rent flats at Dalton Scrapyard.

SOON THE PLANNING APPLICATION WILL GO LIVE. WATCH THIS SPACE SO YOU CAN OBJECT.

Edinburgh is in a state of housing emergency and the residents of Leith are feeling this acutely. We need developments that effectively meet the needs of the local community. The proposed development at Dalton scrapyard will be exploitative and inappropriate. Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) and Build to Rent (BTR)  properties would subject our students and locals to high rents, poor contracts and low standards of accommodation. We all want to see the scrapyard developed into something that betters the local area. We can seize this opportunity to ensure that we secure social and affordable housing and public green space for anyone who calls Leith home.

  • Affordable for residents: social housing not build to rent.
  • Appropriate for the area: affordable housing not university halls.
  • Accessible to the community: public space not private gardens.

In November, Edinburgh City Council declared a Housing Emergency, they need to act like it. We need homes for people not for profit.
