  • Communications: Writing a blog post/short article

This session will provide a time to practice writing together for Living Rent’s website - as a blogpost - but also for different audiences. Indeed, friendly news sources will sometimes ask Living Rent to put forward our own pieces and it’s important that many people feel able to put forward our visions and words to wider audiences.

This session will be very practice-based, come with an idea or a story that you would like to write about for Living Rent and get support from fellow members drafting a structure and effectively putting it forward.

Come to the meeting a few minutes early, so we can start sharp!

  • Our targets’ interests, financial position, or internal organisation can be quite opaque, hidden behind technical terms or not publicly accessible.

This training session will look at how to ‘dig’ for more information, whether through Freedom of Information requests or using the site company house and at how to analyse planning documents and balance sheets. This session is meant as an introduction to corporate research and investigation, both of which can help understand our targets and inform our campaign strategies.

  • Open Meeting for all GHA tenants in Castlemilk and Pollokshaws

    • Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 07:00 PM
    • Online Zoom

Living Rent members in Castlemilk and Pollokshaws have invited GHA Locality Housing Director Alan Glasgow to the table and answer to YOU. On April 15th, have your say on the rent increase!

GHA is imposing a 1.7% rent increase this year while tenants have experienced reduced services and incomes and have been pushed into arrears. Living Rent members are clear: GHA should be putting TENANTS, not rent first!

We are inviting fellow tenants and neighbours in the Southside of Glasgow to join this meeting on April 15th at 7pm to speak face to face with their housing association.

If you haven't already, fill in the tenant led consultation here: livingrent.org/freeze_rents

Invite your neighbours, spread the word and join the union - livingrent.org/join

If you cannot join on Zoom, the event will also be streamed on Facebook live from the Living Rent Glasgow Facebook page.

This meeting will be recorded by Living Rent via Zoom & live streamed to Facebook. By entering, you consent to be recorded and for your image and audio to be live streamed. However, you can turn off your camera and change your name to protect your identity.

  • Organisational skills: Care and Power

As we build our power, fight for the issues that we care about and make real what previously was seen as impossible, we can forget how to take care of ourselves and burn-out. Here, we will look at both individual self-care practices as well as collective ones, in order to build the long-term movement that we need to achieve the future we deserve.

  • Defend Glasgow’s public services - Public meeting

On February 25th, Glasgow City Council (GCC) issued a call to action through the People Make Glasgow Community whose mission is to ‘empower communities to make their own decisions’. GCC and Glasgow Life are offering community groups, organisations and entrepreneurs the chance to take over management of local services, buildings and facilities.

Living Rent and other unions have expressed serious concerns as to what this initiative means for the long term future of our communities services as it shouldn’t be up to volunteers to run and manage these services. A recent Glasgow Times article suggested that 1,000 Glasgow Life jobs could be at risk despite the £100m guarantee to allow 93 of 162 venues to reopen.

Living Rent members are clear - we won’t stand for local austerity and will continue to defend our local services!

We invite all Glasgow residents who care about their local services to come together and discuss what the People Make Glasgow Communities means for the future of our services on Wednesday 28th April, 6.30pm.

This event will be held online using Zoom, sign up below to register for the event and get the zoom link (check your spam).
