Defend Glasgow’s public services - Public meeting

On February 25th, Glasgow City Council (GCC) issued a call to action through the People Make Glasgow Community whose mission is to ‘empower communities to make their own decisions’. GCC and Glasgow Life are offering community groups, organisations and entrepreneurs the chance to take over management of local services, buildings and facilities.

Living Rent and other unions have expressed serious concerns as to what this initiative means for the long term future of our communities services as it shouldn’t be up to volunteers to run and manage these services. A recent Glasgow Times article suggested that 1,000 Glasgow Life jobs could be at risk despite the £100m guarantee to allow 93 of 162 venues to reopen.

Living Rent members are clear - we won’t stand for local austerity and will continue to defend our local services!

We invite all Glasgow residents who care about their local services to come together and discuss what the People Make Glasgow Communities means for the future of our services on Wednesday 28th April, 6.30pm.
