Dundee rent controls

Landlords are pushing up rents to eyewatering levels in Dundee.

Over the past year alone the cost of renting in Dundee has risen by 10%. The cost of renting a three-bed flat has gone up by more than 75% since 2010 [1]. Tenants are suffering, we can’t go on like this.

Every day, we see landlords hike up rents across the city because they know that they can get away with it. Landlords see Dundee as one of the best places to buy in the UK as they can buy properties for cheap and charge outrageous rents.

This allows them to make huge profits while tenants struggle to make ends meet and are pushed out of their communities. Landlords are taking advantage of the housing crisis, and tenants are bearing the brunt!

This year, the Scottish Government is introducing a Housing Bill which if passed will see local authorities given the power to implement rent controls which would stabilise rents and ensure Dundee is a more affordable place to live.

Already Edinburgh City Council has passed a motion in support of rent controls, ensuring that Edinburgh is one step closer to the rent controls it badly needs - Dundee is no different, why can’t our council do the same?
