Introduction to Living Rent - Highlands & Islands Edition!

Street by Street, Strath by StrathCome chat about all things Living Rent Highlands & Islands. Meeting open to ALL. On Zoom, Monday the 30th of May from 6.30-7.30pm.

Stagnant wages, low wages and no wages, a white-hot housing market, runaway rents, sub-standard housing, sham-holiday lets, too many holiday lets: the economy is clearly not working for ordinary Highlanders and Islanders. But we’ve been here before, and the lesson the history of this land teaches us is that when we organise and act collectively, we can successfully fight to protect our communities.

Living Rent is committed to the protection and promotion of the rights of tenants, using a diverse range of tactics, and Living Rent Highlands and Islands is growing stronger.  We are now looking to build upon the hard-won victories and successes of other tenants and communities of Living Rent from across Scotland.

However, there is still much to be done. Highland and Island communities are fragile and if they are to survive and prosper, then tenants must have safe and affordable places to live and communities must be protected from the consequences of unchecked “investment” from absent landlords and absent owners. If current trends are left unchecked, then our communities will simply become unviable. Apathy must be resisted, and we have neither the time nor the luxury to succumb to it.

If you want to help build the presence of Scotland’s fastest growing grassroots organisation in the Highlands and Islands, if you are experiencing issues with your landlord, housing association or letting agent, or there’s a there is something affecting your community that you think can be improved, get in touch. Highland and Island tenants are organising, they are on the front foot and they are up an’ at ’em -- will you be joining them?

Join us on Monday the 30th of May at 6.30pm on Zoom for a 1 hour Introduction to Living Rent Highlands & Islands. Join other members as we talk you through our story so far, have conversations about the change we need to see, and how we can make that change happen.

Please also get in touch if you have any access needs we can support you with!
