Campaign Launch: Tourist tax to take our buses back

Come join us as we launch our new campaign to get Glasgow City Council to invest money from their tourist tax into public buses!

We'll be launching with a fun action and a bit of outreach in the city centre... come along to the meeting point to find out more.

Meet at Glasgow Central Station, corner of Hope Street and Gordon Street by the firefighter statue.

Glasgow City Council has agreed to implement a 5% visitor levy from 2027 which could make them around £16 million per year. But they don't want to spend it on residents, they want to invest it into boosting the £2bn+ tourism industry.

This money could and should be used to benefit the people of Glasgow. One of the many problems in our city is transport - especially buses which have been privatised since 1986. The council has committed to reintroducing public buses but as always, lacks the funds to do so.

This is why Living Rent members have decided that some of the money generated should help speed up the reintroduction of public buses in the city.

When we come together and take action, we can put pressure on Glasgow City Council to put residents first!
