Living Rent as part of the Speak Oot Trade union festival invites you to a showing of “Red Skirts on the Clydeside” @6pm hosted at Generator Projects Dundee. RSVP via Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/3850732195166008/
Red Skirts on Clydeside was made by the Sheffield Film Cooperative in 1984. It follows the documentarians rediscovering women's histories during the Glasgow Rent Strikes of 1915 and celebrating some of the women involved: Helen Crawfurd, Agnes Dollan, Mary Barbour, Jean Fergusson. Using archives and interviewing Glaswegian women who can remember the period, “Red Skirts on the Clydeside” not only asks why working class history is often sidelined, but additionally why the women in those movements are under-represented.
After the film the floor will be open for a discussion on what the Glasgow Rent Strikes means for us in 2025. How can trade and tenant unions work in solidarity to improve our communities? Have women’s issues progressed and in what ways are we still fighting similar battles to 1915?
Many thanks to Generator projects for hosting the event and Speak oot for organising the festival!
Tea, Coffee and snacks provided.
Post Event drinks held at the Speedwell Tavern.
