Glasgow City Council has agreed to implement a 5% visitor levy from 2027 which could make them around £16 million per year. But they don't want to spend it on residents, they want to invest it into boosting the £2bn+ tourism industry.
This money could and should be used to benefit the people of Glasgow. One of the many problems in our city is transport - especially buses which have been deregulated since 1986. The council has committed to reintroducing public buses but as always, lacks the funds to do so.

We demand that:
The money generated from the tourist tax is used to help speed up the reintroduction of public buses in the city.
The tourist tax revenue should be used to help our transport authority - Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) - to deliver the ambitious plans set out in the Regional Bus Strategy to bring our region’s bus network back into public control and to establish a new publicly-owned bus company for Strathclyde.
