Phonebanking to Build Community Resilience

Living Rent is adapting to the lockdown. Our members are using the means we do still have at our disposal to organise our communities and check in on those who might need support. By phonebanking (calling) hundreds of our contacts we can make sure that people are connected up with local support structures and campaign so that as a union, as tenants, as neighbours we shield ourselves from the various pressures of the COVID-19 crisis.

Join one of the weekly sessions where - via Zoom - we will introduce the union's approach to phonebanking and then as a group get stuck into the call-lists. Any member of the union is invited to take part.

The Zoom call link will be posted in the Living Rent Glasgow Members group and the Living Rent Edinburgh Branch group immediately before we begin.

Any interested members outside of these groups, please email George Lavery (preferably with some notice before the session begins).

Beyond the immediate needs of those who are self-isolating we need to address the longer term aspects of the crisis. Despite the stay on evictions, tenants across Scotland are still placed in an extremely precarious and still the Scottish Government is failing to legislate for the protections we need. There are masses of people all of the country left unable to pay their rent. Meanwhile some landlords are taking advantage of the crisis and others are looking at how soon they can dispossess tenants of their homes.

We've got to band together now. For our housing, for our jobs, for our public services, for our health and wellbeing, for our lives. Let's get organised.
