Mid market tenants need rent controls!

Mid market tenants have been being left behind to face extortionate rent increases.

Last Autumn, the Scottish government passed a housing bill that will see rent controls introduced for private tenants. But there are serious exemptions. Mid market tenants, along with tenants in build to rent developments are exempt from rent controls meaning that mid market tenants might face high rent hikes.

This is already happening. Some of our members are facing rents that are no way near what ‘mid market’ was set up to be. In one block in Glasgow, mid-market rents have increased to £900 for a one bed flat, way above what most people are able to afford.

We need this government to amend the housing bill to include mid market housing and ensure that mid-market tenants are protected by rent controls.

Housing associations and private developers have fought tooth and nail for mid-market to be exempt from rent controls so they can continue to charge huge amounts of rent at tenants expense.

If you are a mid market tenant, sign our petition and fill in our survey.

Do you sign our petition to call for rent controls to apply to mid-market properties?
