Open meeting - don't let landlords water down the housing bill!

Event postponed until next Wednesday: https://www.livingrent.org/rent_controls_open_meeting_130525_20250521

Come along to our open meeting on Tuesday 13 May to talk about rent controls and how how we fight to ensure they work for tenants.

The Scottish government is currently debating the Housing Bill – a pivotal moment that could bring real rent controls to Scotland.

But landlords are fighting back hard, pressuring politicians to weaken the bill and protect their profits. Right now the government is consulting on introducing exemptions to the housing bill that could sabotage the bill and have a huge impact on tenants.

Now more than ever, tenants need to come together and make sure this legislation delivers safe, secure, and genuinely affordable homes for everyone.

At this open meeting, we’ll share stories, strategies, and how to get involved in the campaign for strong rent controls.

First we’ll hear how rent controls have worked across Europe and in Scotland before Thatcher.

Then we'll discuss landlords' responses and discuss in groups how to push back against landlord lobbying, organise outreach sessions and ensure the final bill puts tenants first.

Whether you’ve faced unfair rent hikes, want to get involved in outreach, or simply want to learn more about how rent controls could work, come along to our open meeting to get involved in the campaign for rent controls.
