Our response to parliament's consultation on the Housing Bill

Throughout April until 17 May, Scottish Parliament surveyed tenants and landlords on their views on rent controls to scrutinise the bill. The evidence gathered from their survey will support or undermine the legislation. As a result, we organised a petition and asked people to support our response to the consultation.

And over 2,500 people responded! This shows the power of tenants and the widely felt belief that we need change in our communities.

Our demands were:

  • Rent controls that bring rents down.
  • Rent controls that improve quality without increasing the rent.
  • Rent controls tied to the property, not the tenancy, which will protect both new and sitting tenants.
  • Greater protections against evictions.
