Across the last week, we have seen a wave of far-right, racist and Islamophobic violence unleashed on communities across Britain. Black and Asian people in England and Belfast have been brutally attacked, mosques besieged, and hotels housing families seeking safety set on fire. Scotland is not immune to far-right ideology and demonstrations have been planned in Glasgow and other locations over the next month.
As a tenant and community union, Living Rent stands shoulder to shoulder with all those under attack. We condemn the millionaire politicians, establishment media, and fascist social media influencers who for years have stirred up hatred against the most vulnerable in society. As our communities suffer from crumbling healthcare, broken local services and a spiralling housing crisis, the rich have reaped the profits while sowing division.
Ultimately, the way we defeat the far right is through continuing to build working class unity and power. It is up to us to protect one another and to stand in solidarity with our neighbours as they face increasing racism and Islamophobia. In our communities and workplaces, Living Rent is committed to fighting for a dignified life for all. Let us make sure together that fascist violence does not win out on the streets of Scotland.
