Whats next for rent controls?

This government has failed tenants. Last year the Scottish government voted to implement rent controls, but it will be years before any local authority is able to declare a rent pressure zone. Until then, tenants will remain at the mercy of their landlords.

Even when they are introduced, the rent controls voted on are riddled with exemptions that will leave a huge number of tenants in mid market properties and build to rent developments without any protections.

Our housing bill is a serious let down for what tenants need. It’s clear that our Housing minister Mairi McAllan and First Minster John Swinney have betrayed tenants and are just listening to landlords.

So we’re going to plan for how we fight back.
