Hannah and Tom secured £1018 compensation after being left with no heating or hot water for 6 weeks.
In March 2026 we were left without hot water or heating for just over 6 weeks. Our agency, DJ Alexander kept delaying repairs due to not being able to find a quote that suited them. In the meantime we were left with no compensation. The landlord agreed to waive our rent for the period we were without hot water, which we were pleased to accept. The following week they changed their minds regarding this and demanded we pay all our rent in full, or face eviction and also not be provided with a landlord reference should we decide to move out. Living Rent helped us have a negotiation meeting with DJ Alexander where we were able to get the contact details of our landlord to communicate with him directly. After communicating with him, our original offer of a months waived rent was upheld!!
