2019: Living Rent is hiring in Glasgow

Living Rent starts 2019 with expansion plans and possibilities!

After successfully securing funding From Foundation Scotland and Big Lottery, Living Rent is recruiting for two part-time positions in Glasgow: one organiser and one casework coordinator [with administrative support responsibilities]. Please see below for the description of the two positions.

1. Part-time organiser

Living Rent is looking for an organiser to join our organisation in Glasgow. This organiser will join a growing team of organisers in Glasgow. You will work closely with Living Rent’s members in Glasgow, with the ACORN team throughout the UK and will focus specifically on organising tenants in Glasgow.

The role will entail organising outreach events (doorknocking, stalls, community meetings), supporting the creation of neighbourhood/block organising teams, supporting the actions of tenants to achieve their demands, and organising local events. The organiser will be working with existing volunteers and newly recruited members.

We are looking for someone keen to work with a young organisation and passionate about member-run and diverse organisations. Experience in recruitment, training delivery, community education or campaigns is welcome; however enthusiasm, willingness to learn and commitment to social justice are more important than previous experience as training will be provided. This role may suit someone with experience in sales, street fundraising or other customer facing work, and wishes to move into organising or campaigning.

This is a part-time (22.5h per week) Living Wage role with some flexible working [16 424 pro rata]. Please note, the interview process will take place over two stages. We will hold a half day 1st stage on the 12th of February which is mandatory to be considered for this position, where we will provide applicants with introduction to the organisation, hands-on exercises and an interview. Short-listed candidates will be asked to a second stage practical evaluation.

2. Part time casework coordinator and administrative support assistance

Living Rent is looking for a casework coordinator to join and support our organisation in Glasgow. This casework position will join and support a growing team of organisers in Glasgow.

You will work closely with Living Rent’s members in Glasgow, with the ACORN team throughout the UK and will focus specifically on supporting members organise to address housing issues through the member defence team process. The role will entail coordinating in a supportive capacity the Glasgow’s member defence team, coordinating training for members and delivering administrative duties such as email sign-posting, website updates, and measuring and reporting Living Rent’s casework impact. This post supports member-led actions and decisions to support one another. You will be working with existing volunteers and newly recruited members.

We are recruiting a Glasgow-based versatile casework coordinator. We are looking for someone keen to work with a young organisation and passionate about member-run and diverse organisations. Experience in case-work, training delivery, community education, website management, constituency relationship management and administration are welcome; we will further consider enthusiasm, curiosity, willingness to learn and commitment to social justice. This role may suit someone with experience in secretarial duty, adult education, or other customer facing work, and wishes to move into a role which empowers and trains members and strengthen Living Rent as a member-led union.
