Homes not holiday lets: endorse our response to Edinburgh council's consultation

Holiday lets (also known as short term lets) reduce the housing stock for residents of Edinburgh, pushing up rents and property prices, and worsening the city’s housing crisis.

In August we ran a petition in response to Edinburgh City Council's consultation on holiday lets and we got over 1,700 signatures endorsing our demands for the new licensing scheme and control zone to bring down the number of holiday lets, as well ensuring robust enforcement of licencing and penalties for all those who fail to comply with standards.

Now the Council has released their findings and is consulting again until December 22nd.

Below is our petition to gather support for our response to this new consultation.

Sign below and endorse our demands for:

  • Restrictions on short term lets in residential areas, in quiet areas, in shared stairwells, in large properties, in properties with a shared garden, and where there would be an adverse effect on parking.
  • Further restrictions on short term lets to help maintain the availability of housing, particularly of accessible housing and of smaller properties to help tackle under occupancy in the city.
  • Proper enforcement mechanisms and meaningful penalties for landlords who operate short term lets unlawfully.
  • For this guidance to be implemented as quickly as possible to prevent landlords evading upcoming regulation.
